Who is ringing in the New Year with you? Who do you wish could be with you, but isn't there?
A: my sister, my old cat Sunshine & Radiohead. I imagine there's a lot of people I wish could be with me, but we won't be too wistful about that one.
It's officially 2008 for the Central states. I've been watching celebrations all day on television and had conversations with friends from far away who were witnessing the passing of another year before myself. It's sleepy over here. I'm watching a broadcast Radiohead has put on of them performing songs from their new CD In Rainbows which is due in stores right about now. Thom Yorke rocks back and forth with his eyes closed most of the time like he really has some intense things in that mind of his. I really like Raidohead and for some reason, I really like their new CD. Besides that, nothing new really going on for me. I'm already trying to put some material goals into perspective. I have under 8 months to get a bunch of debt in order as well as a lot of other things. If I make small steady strides I imagine that I will be able to achieve some of those goals. That's as close to resolutions as I'm getting. I just need to keep in mind the things that need to be done and do them.
I got my wish and continued playing some of my favorite Wii games. My wrists ached from a Guitar Hero marathon. I'm waiting for Radiohead to go off before continuing with Resident Evil. For those who would have liked to have seen the broadcast, you may watch it at your leisure here.
I have big hopes for 2008. I want to keep building stability and defining what the hell I'm doing and why. I like the uncertainty of life at times, but some things are just better when you don't have to guess at it. May everyone have their little piece of clarity and success.
When did you last write/receive a handwritten, snail-mail letter? Who was it to/from?
Submitted by Places Unknown.
The last time I wrote a handwritten snail mail letter was several months ago to a friend of mine who joined the Army in the past year or two. He's in TX now going through more training & continuing to learn Korean which apparently is a hard language. I forget, he's married now too. We were close friends in the short years we went to high school together, my major high school crush. He's moved around since then, but we've kept in touch. Since he joined the military our communication hasn't been too consistent; when we do it still brings me joy. High school is more than several personalities ago, but this friend has survived through my change of tastes.
I used to write a lot of handwritten letters when I was younger. One of my first pen pals was a girl from Iowa who was recently affected by major flooding back in 1993. I must have been about 9 years old. I lamely put my name in a soap opera magazine, but got responses from people all over the United States. I'm sure my dad wondered why he was receiving so much mail in the P.O. Box. I never officially told him why, but he never officially asked either. Nowadays, hand written letters are a rarity.
While I continue to establish myself in routines here in Minneapolis, my eye is turning overseas again. I'm contemplating applying for something whose deadline is coming up soon, but I quickly have to come up with where to go specifically. I probably won't be sure as to where I'm going until early next year, but you have to start early. I'm having such a hard time staying awake right now. Have to wake up earlier than expected to go to a training. Postponing the rest of my thoughts for another time.
You're the DJ: what are the next five songs coming up after the break?
- Keziah Jones: Neptune
- Rx Bandits: Apparition
- Kenna: Sunday After You
- Thom Yorke: Harrowdown Hill
- Oingo Boingo: Dead Man's Party
Ok, so they wouldn't all really fit together, but don't feel like organizing it.
And oh, that's right...random 80's hit right before commercial break.
