The school that I work at has a small chaotic piece of my heart, as if hearts could properly be described as chaotic except in terms of tumultuous feelings. Behavior problems are an issue especially when you have a school that's all early education. I'm grouped in with those who mean well, but aren't necessarily trained educators. We deal with little life lessons like rubbing your hands together in order to get glue from between your fingers. One day we dream of having more staff, but for now we have to be everyone's everything. Since my job duties are changing, I'm trying NOT to be that person. But you help when you can and you hope that things work out for the best, especially for a school trying to make it through its first year.
I got to eat at one of my favorite restaurants this evening with a friend of mine after work. We frequent it relatively often & although my funds are still a little low, it was worth it to hang out at the diner. Somehow it became tradition to be able to write on the walls or draw a picture, whatever legacy you wanted to leave behind. Our original idea was to write a "love letter" but opted for something that took up less poetic license. Below is a half asleep attempt at what I may have written.
Dear Victor's 1959 Cafe,
This world is full of new things to discover & I will never be able to do it all. I don't think I'll even try. But no matter how uncertain I feel trying different experiences and cuisines, every time I come back to you I feel comforted. Your cooks seem to know me quite well, you must have listened to my compliments on your fried plantains and warm empanadas. You're quite special & you know it because of all the numerous other love letters on your walls. They come from very grateful people from all over. Thanks for being there when I need a familiar place. We'll see each other soon...I promise.
Love always, Me
I think I'll stick to writing faux love letters to personified entities. The real stuff is always too complicated, and who wants that?
